Pottery

Pottery makers produce a wide variety of objects, mostly by hand, that are sold either in their own studios, in retail outlets, or at arts-and-crafts shows. Some display their works in galleries and museums. They work with many different types of clay to create unique pieces of art, such as vases and pots. Many also use fine-art techniques—for example, painting, sketching, and printing—to add finishing touches to their creations.

Several Malaysian pottery products have over the years made their name famous at the international level. This includes the ever-popular labu sayong from Kuala Kangsar, Au pottery and many more.

The uniqueness of Malaysian traditional pottery is in a class of its own. Foremost is the famous pottery products of Sayong near the royal town of Kuala Kangsar in Perak. Elsewhere, there are Sarawak pottery with their ethnic motifs while the equally famous Au pottery represents among the earliest contemporary range.
